Refraction/Reflection

Got this shot at the train station again. It wasn't so dark tonight so you can see much more than lights, but I still like what happened with the blur.
Mum took this pic at Wayford Bridge Boatyard, of the same thing I would have shot if I'd been there.

Ceilings

A gecko walked across the ceiling today so I took a shot as best I could. Unfortunately it was very difficult to focus, but still.. gecko.
My mum took this shot of the roof of Cromer Baptist Church.

Late

Sorry I'm late today, had an unexpected barbecue yesterday evening. Today I took a closeup of my CRT monitor with Mum's picture from yesterday on the screen. This is the area including the top right of the window. I love seeing the individual elements of each pixel. It's like hi-tech pointillism.
And this is the shed in the back garden. I love this picture because you can't imagine it looking that nice by looking at the whole thing. You could believe you were out in the countryside somewhere.

Blue, blue, blue

Out on an installation today, but I remembered to take my camera.. Got this pic on the way to the city, this building is probably an incredibly expensive place to live. Views out at the city skyline, surrounded by trees, close to the city but far enough away to not be deafened by traffic.. Nice.
And my mum went out to the sticks in Norfolk, between Acle and Norwich, for this picture of a mill by the River Bure. Probably a much cheaper place to live, if you'd choose to.

Contrast

Busy railway station car park at night, peaceful beach during the day.

I love taking pictures of lights with a slow shutter speed. I just wish I'd been standing still instead of walking so they were blurred depending on the movement of the cars, not my hand. Still nice though, I think.
And my mum's shot is from Cromer. Nice framing from the cliff.

Rules

are meant to be broken. I couldn't find anything inspiring to take photos of today, because I forgot to take my camera to work again. So naturally I passed hundreds of good views and interesting sights. Here's the ceiling fan, slowing down.
And here's a boat in Lowestoft Harbour. Lots of blue skies there at the moment.

Morning and Evening

I remembered to take my camera to work today, and although getting there was a rush due to cancelled trains and sardine packing, walking home afforded me more opportunity to snap, so I did. Got this shot at sunset (even though the buildings kind of obstruct all the sky) over Bowen Hills soccer pitch or something.
Mum took this about 7 hours ago at sunrise, of Gulliver and a seagull. I love the motion blur on the blades.

Colours

Work kept me from getting a decent picture today. I tried to take one of the stars but they just don't show up. So here's a picture from the other day, of the garden.
And I think this is a street in Beccles. If it's where I think it is, it's a couple of streets away from Tesco. But I could be completely wrong. Comment, Mum.

It's odd..

That I seem to be finding it much harder than my mum to find things to take photos of. I guess partly because there's not much within walking range. In a year's time, when I can drive, maybe I'll take a quick trip each day and find something.

This is just a cross-stitch from the wall here, I think Debby probably made it.
And Mum took this pic of Lowestoft Harbour. I love the way the sun looks on water like that.

Photos

That's really the only thing these two pictures have in common..

I was walking around the outside of the house today, taking pictures to show people back home, and I got this shot of a flower. I don't know what it is, and nobody here seems to know either. Any ideas?
Mum got this shot of the Bascule Bridge being inconvenient, as it so often is..

Inside Outside

Not much to say about today's pic, it's just a wreathy thing on the wall in the kitchen. Annoying how the wall behind it reflects the flash so much but even during the day that wall's always in shadow so I didn't really have a choice.
Mum took a picture of the bridge into Belle Vue (I'm not even sure if that's how it's spelled; after all, I only lived in the town 21 years) Park. I always enjoyed going to that park, especially on sunny days.

Colours

I've been a bit busy with job interviews the last few days, so I haven't been getting out much. Here's a picture of a painting on Laura's wall - she likes Frangipanis, by the way.
And by my mum, a shot of Oulton Broad at sunset. I'm looking forward to getting some good sunset shots once I can be in the right place at the right time, but we always seem to be driving home around then.

Different

I thought I'd go for something less obvious today. I'm not sure it came out as well as I'd have liked (partly because of the landscape format) but I still kinda like it. It'll do. Not every day's gonna be a winner.
Mum got this nice shot in Runton. I'm always impressed by how straight she gets her horizons.

A Recurring Theme?

I don't want this to get too repetitive, but the sky over Brisbane was just great today, so I took this and I'll have to find something lower down tomorrow.
Mum took a shot of the Town Hall in Lowestoft, and I especially like the flag..

More Skies..

Took a slightly-later-than-sunset shot of the moon behind some trees, looking straight up. I liked the colour of the sky. I'm not sure if the lack of stars is due to the sunset, or the light pollution from being so close to the city. I think it's the sunset. Saw stars on Saturday night, which was odd, because they're all different.
Mum got a brilliant shot of a paraglider in Cromer.

Looking Down

Here's the garden path, flanked by two trees which surprisingly have not yet had a spider's web waiting to grab my face as I duck through.
And here's Mariner's Score, which I'm sure Laura will remember climbing up, if she hasn't blocked the memory.

Nature

I think that a photo should stand up for itself, and be good regardless of the subject matter, the skill required to take it, or any other factor besides how it looks. But that said, I would like you all to appreciate that it took me about 15 minutes and 20 shots to get Bella to stay still for half a second.
I have no idea where my mum's shot was taken.. Somewhere by the sea, I guess.

Wall Mounts

Today I went even less far than before, and took a shot of this ornament on one of the wardrobe doors in our bedroom.. There are four, all similar, but I liked this one best. And I couldn't tell you why.
Mum took a shot of the inside of her bookshop, with her WWII (maybe I?) poster giving us all good advice.

Mandarin Water

Today I got busy receiving phone calls instead of taking pictures, so it got left til after dark.. Ended up in the garden trying not to wash photos out too much with the flash. Can't get used to being this warm but the sun going down at 5.

I wanted to take a picture of something that wasn't so tree-ish today, after the last two shots, but there isn't much else but plants in the garden. Decided to vary it by taking a close-up instead of a landscape..
And mum took a picture of the sea, I think at the South Beach. And there's a boat too!

Neighbourhoods

So here're today's pictures.. I went closer to home, and mum went out a bit further, and we ended up getting pictures of places about the same distance from our houses..

Skies

Hi.

I'm Sami, and I've recently moved from Lowestoft, UK, to Brisbane, Australia. From our opposite sides of the world, my mum and I are going to take pictures each day, and post them together. We won't discuss or see the other picture before we've taken our own, and we'll see what happens.

Today I took a view from Mt Coot-tha, overlooking Brisbane City.
Mum took a shot of the sky, I think from the back garden at home.
